Jiufen is my favorite destination of Northern Taiwan. With it’s amazing view of the coastline, fun hikes with incredible viewpoints, impressive waterfall, relaxing tea and popular Old Street, it’s easy to understand why so many people love that place so much.

Right by the sea, in the Ruifang District, it takes the name of Elephant Trunk Rock because of the rock formation ressemblance with the animal.

If you are visiting Yilan, you should definitely check out Turtle Island (also named Guishan Island) for a fun day trip. The site of the only active volcano in Taiwan, this island looks like a turtle when you look at it from afar.
At only 10 kilometers from the city of Yilan, part of the Toucheng township, the island is accessible by boat cruise from Wushih Harbor. 3.3 km long and 1.7 km wide, this island was once used to support a population of 750 people. Now it serves as a national protected environment and its access is limited because it is still a controlled military area (the daily limit entry is 1800 people and you can’t stay overnight).

About 33 km from Taitung, Green Island (also called Ludao) is one of the best places for snorkeling and diving. This island was once used to exile political prisonners during martial law period (1949-1987). This hidden paradise has a lot to offer to travelers and is one of my favorite place to go on a vacation. Because there are lots of activities to do, I suggest you take at least 3 days to explore Green Island.

Taroko National Park is one of Taiwan’s most famous attraction for good reason. Named Taiwan’s Grand Canyon, this spectacular region in the central-east of Taiwan is a national treasure.
Taroko Gorge was carved by the Liwu River and the park is so big, it is part of three different counties: Taichung County, Nantou County and Hualien County. Covering 1200 square km and having peaks rising to 3000m above sea level, this place is pretty impressive and a must-see place to visit.
This is the perfect spot to visit for travelers as it has magnificent views of mountains, temples, waterfalls and great hikes.

Located in the southwest of the Taiwan Strait, Penghu County is composed of 90 Islands and is known as the pearl of the Taiwan Strait. Penghu has lots of natural wonders to offer.
Also refered as Pescadores (Fisherman Islands) these hidden islands near the coast of Taiwan are the perfect getaway with the turquoise water, the multitude of colorful of fishes and clean unoccupied beaches.
The best time to visit would be in May and September. Summer can be very hot and winter can be cold and windy.
It is the perfect place to go snorkeling, diving or wind surfing. Pack your bags and come and visit this hidden gem for the perfect 3 day vacation.
